The Moonlit Valley

About us

The Moonlit Valley plays Irish and Scottish music in acoustic. The members of the band appreciate greatly such groups as "Dubliners", "Silly Wizard", "Sweeney's Men", "Fingers", etc. But also they have different interests in music: some of them are fans of Russian folk, other - of rock-music (especially - "Led Zeppelin", by the way the group took part in the festival-tribute to LZ - ZeppoMania!).

In the June of 2008 The Moonlit Valley became the first Ceilidh Band from Russia playing Scottish traditional music in Moscow. Our band took part in the Dancing events of the Moscow department of RSCDS playing different beautiful tunes for the dances.

Almost all the songs of the band dedicate to 3 topics: love, drunkers or death. Rare exceptions to the rule are such songs as "Farewell to Nova Scotia" - about leaving the native land and "Humpty Dumpty", that is about... we don't know what, cause the author of the text is J. Joyce. :)

The musicians perform not only songs in English, but also in Russian, for example Russian folk songs in both variants: traditional - the Pagan song "Roosalki" (Mermaids) and own - sinthes of the Celtic melody "Musical Priest" with the Russian folk song. The members of the band create their own vocal and instrumental parts, because it's much more interesting for them than to play tunes without changing a note.

The group was formed in Samhain - on the 1st November of 2000 and plays gigs in many places (for example - "Art Garbage", "Rosie O'Gradys", "Vermel"). Also the band took part in different fests, for example - Saint Patrick' Day in Moscow and "Piper" in Saint-Petersburg.
